Patna: Amity Institute of English Studies, Patna, lifted the trophy at the Inter-College Invitational Word Bee 2025 held at Patna Women’s College on Wednesday, as Sheba Eram and Khadiya Siddique emerged winners in a contest that blended classical vocabulary tests with modern cultural references.
The team of Anushka Kumari and Rushali Priya from the Department of English, Patna Women’s College, secured the runner-up position, while Tasneem Fatma and Deepanyjali Kumari, also from the host college, finished as second runner-up.

The event, conducted annually by the Department of English Communication and Media, drew 51 teams this year, with six making it to the onstage finals. Participants were tested on etymology, word construction, book titles, and a special round based on Taylor Swift’s lyrics – a section that drew the loudest cheers from the Gen Z-heavy audience.
The competition was overseen by Amitabh Ranjan, assistant professor at the Department of English Communication and Media, assisted by colleague Frank Krishner as chief arbiter. Organisers said the aim was to strengthen functional vocabulary and linguistic awareness among students, while giving them a platform to showcase their skills in an engaging format.
