Patna: Bapu Tower and Patna Zoo have been temporarily closed following extensive damage caused by a severe storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds that swept through Patna on Friday.
Authorities said Bapu Tower would remain closed to visitors for the next three days to facilitate repair and restoration work.
Bapu Tower Suffers Structural Damage
Officials said several trees inside the Bapu Tower complex were uprooted during the storm, while portions of the tower’s exterior cladding were also damaged.
The administration said the site had been shut to ensure uninterrupted repair work and appealed to tourists and visitors for cooperation.
The storm, which battered large parts of the Bihar capital, caused widespread disruption across roads, public spaces and civic infrastructure.

Patna Zoo Shut After 24 Trees Fall
The Patna Zoo also sustained major damage during the storm.
According to zoo authorities, nearly 24 trees collapsed within the premises, while several large branches snapped and fell onto pathways and inside animal enclosures.
Director Hemant Patil said the zoo would remain closed to visitors on Saturday as teams worked to clear fallen trees and assess damage across the complex.
Officials said pathways inside the zoo were blocked in multiple locations after trees fell across paved visitor routes.
Animals Safe Despite Damage
Zoo authorities said all animals were safe despite reports of branches falling inside some enclosures.
Emergency inspections were carried out immediately after the storm, while staff continued restoration and clearance work late into the evening.
Officials are also examining electrical systems and other infrastructure inside the zoo premises.
The storm additionally damaged smaller plants and greenery across the zoo campus.
Authorities noted that visitor footfall remained relatively low on Friday due to intense heat earlier in the day, limiting the number of people present inside the zoo when the storm struck.
