Patna: Patna Zoo is all set to undergo a major transformation in the coming years, bringing a world-class experience for visitors. The zoo will soon become the first in India to have a glass bridge for tigers and lions, similar to the one at the New York Zoo. This special bridge will be built at a height of 25 feet and will be 50 to 60 feet long. The new feature will allow visitors to see the big cats walking on the bridge from the road, offering a thrilling and close view of the animals. Work on this project will begin in 2026, with a bridge for tigers being built first, followed by one for lions.
The zoo authorities say the idea is inspired by international zoos where animals have more open and natural spaces. The glass bridge will not only let the tigers and lions move freely between their cages but will also give visitors a more exciting and modern zoo experience. Most of the cages at Patna Zoo are over 50 years old and will now be renovated and fitted with glass for better viewing. A special corridor will also be constructed so that visitors can easily walk through and see all animals and birds in a safe but engaging way.
Apart from the glass bridges, several other changes are planned at Patna Zoo in the next five years. Cleanliness and greenery inside the zoo are being improved, and special arrangements will be made for visitors’ comfort. Trained guides will be provided to help people learn about the different animals, birds, and plants in the zoo. This will make visits more informative and enjoyable for school children and families.
There are also plans to introduce activities for children to make their trip more educational and fun. Events such as animal feeding shows, nature walks, and special interactive sessions will be organised. These activities will not only entertain but also teach children about animals and the environment. With all these developments, Patna Zoo is expected to become one of the most attractive tourist spots in the state and a model for other zoos in India.
