Patna: Patna Zoo has begun a significant beautification project across its premises, with extensive landscaping work underway over 15,000 square feet. The initiative comes as the zoo prepares for the seasonal rise in footfall during winter months.
Visitors entering through Gate No. 2 towards Gate No. 1 will now find carpet grass being laid along the main road, while ornamental plants are being added around animal enclosures, dramatically transforming the visual appeal of the surroundings. The zoo has also introduced specially sourced Buddha Bamboo, imported from Hyderabad, which is being used to create decorative mounts within flower beds.
According to zoo management, the project is being carried out under the direction of Principal Secretary Anand Kishore, who recommended planting trees and greenery along vacant spaces throughout the premises. Officials say the landscaping will help reduce dust levels and improve the overall environmental quality within the zoo.
A total of 37 species of plants have been procured for the redesign, with supplies arriving from Hyderabad and Hajipur. The ongoing work includes both large grass-covering stretches and smaller landscaped sections filled with soil and ornamental plantation.
Hundreds of plants are being introduced across 50 designated locations, including species such as Aequipha, Aglaonema, Anthurium, Aralia, Dracaena, Golden Bush, Coleus and Haviskes Victory. Five varieties of Dracaena have been purchased, along with two types of turf—Mexican grass and Selection One grass. A new structure measuring 30 by 10 square metres is also being constructed as part of the redevelopment.
Zoo officials expect the upgraded landscape to provide a more inviting experience for visitors and create a cleaner, greener environment for both guests and wildlife.
