Patna: Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh on Wednesday took the oath of office and secrecy as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) and called for the establishment of a film city in Bihar, saying it would help create opportunities for aspiring artists across the state.
Pawan Singh was the first among the newly elected members to take the oath during a ceremony held at the Bihar Legislative Council Annexe in Patna. Following the ceremony, he greeted people with the slogan, “Jai Bhojpuri, Jai Bihar,” and reiterated his commitment to promoting the state’s creative talent.
Focus on Bihar’s Film Industry
Speaking to reporters after the oath-taking ceremony, Pawan Singh said he would continue his work as an artist while discharging his responsibilities as an MLC.
“I will simply say—Jai Bhojpuri, Jai Bihar. I am an artist, and as an artist, I wish to continue my acting and work. A film city should be built in Bihar. The young men among us who are singing and acting should get a good platform,” he said.
He said developing a film city would provide local singers, actors and technicians with better opportunities and reduce the need for aspiring talent to leave Bihar in search of work.
Oath-Taking Ceremony
The swearing-in ceremony was held for the 10 newly elected members of the Bihar Legislative Council, all of whom were elected unopposed. After Pawan Singh, Health Minister Nishant Kumar, BJP leader Sanjay Mayukh, Sunil Kumar Singh and the remaining members took the oath of office and secrecy.
The candidates had been declared elected unopposed on June 11 after the number of valid nominations matched the number of vacant seats.
Leaders Across Political Parties Attend
The ceremony was attended by several senior political leaders, including Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Chaudhary and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.
The presence of leaders from both the ruling coalition and the opposition drew attention during the event, with photographs of Tejashwi Yadav seated alongside Vijay Chaudhary circulating widely.
Election to the Legislative Council
The election filled 10 seats in the Bihar Legislative Council. Four members each were elected from the BJP and JD(U), while one seat each went to the RJD and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). As the number of candidates equalled the number of vacancies, all were elected without a contest.
Sanjay Mayukh Thanks Party Leadership
Following the oath-taking ceremony, BJP leader Sanjay Mayukh thanked the party leadership for reposing faith in him.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and the BJP leadership had entrusted him with the responsibility, adding that he would work to fulfil the expectations of both the organisation and the people.
