Patna: Petrol and diesel prices have been increased in Bihar, in a move likely to intensify cost-of-living pressures and ripple through transport and food prices across the state.
The revised rates came into effect at 6am on Thursday, with Petrol rising by Rs 5 per litre to Rs 110.35, up from Rs 105.35. Diesel prices were raised by Rs 3 per litre, taking the cost to Rs 94.58 from Rs 91.58, according to the latest pricing update issued by petroleum companies.
The increase in diesel prices is expected to have a wider economic impact, given its central role in transportation and logistics. Higher fuel costs could push up freight charges, raising concerns of a knock-on effect on the prices of essential goods, including fruits, vegetables and grains.
For households already grappling with inflation, the latest hike is likely to deepen financial strain. Daily commuters and middle-income families are expected to be among the hardest hit, as rising fuel costs translate into higher expenses for both private and public transport.
Operators of auto-rickshaws, buses and trucks are also likely to face increased operating costs, which could in turn lead to fare hikes, further burdening consumers.
Analysts attribute the rise in fuel prices to fluctuations in global crude oil markets and adjustments in taxation. With international price volatility persisting, further revisions in domestic fuel prices remain a possibility in the coming weeks.
