Sabour: More than 600 farmers, scientists, officers and students assembled at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, on Saturday to celebrate PM Kisan Utsav Diwas with great enthusiasm. The attendees watched the live address of the Prime Minister, who released the 20th installment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
Speaking from Kashi, the Prime Minister transferred Rs 10,000 crore directly to the bank accounts of farmers across the country, including 75 lakh beneficiaries from Bihar alone. Referring to the spiritual significance of the city, he described the funds as “Prasad” reaching the hands of the farmers.
Bhagalpur MP Ajay Mandal, present at the university auditorium, praised the initiative and called it a transformative step for Indian agriculture.
The Vice Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, D. R. Singh, highlighted the university’s efforts in supporting farmers. “In the last two years, we have trained over 5 lakh farmers in different fields. Now, we are moving towards ‘nutritional self-reliance’ by distributing five types of fruit and vegetable plants—mango, banana, drumstick, lemon and papaya—free of cost to farmers in the Bhagalpur region,” he said.
Additional training in animal husbandry and tailoring was also provided to visiting farmers from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sabour. These skill-building efforts are expected to promote self-employment, especially among rural women and youth.
The event was hosted by Director of Extension Education, R. K. Sohane. M. Z. Hoda conducted the programme, and Senior Scientist Anita Kumari concluded the session by expressing gratitude to the guests and participants.
