Gayaji/Patna: All government and private schools in Gaya district will be closed on Friday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Bihar to inaugurate major infrastructure projects and address a public rally in Bodh Gaya.
District Education Officer Omprakash issued a circular on Wednesday following directions from district magistrate Shashank Shubhankar, citing expected traffic congestion due to the prime minister’s programme. The order said thousands of people are likely to arrive in vehicles from neighbouring districts, which could disrupt movement across Gaya.
“On the day of the Prime Minister’s programme, teaching work will remain suspended in all government and non-government schools of Gaya district so that children do not face traffic-related inconvenience,” Omprakash said.
The district administration estimates that more than 200,000 people will attend the event. A traffic management plan has been released, though officials said precautionary measures were needed to ease movement during the prime minister’s visit.
PM Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth over Rs 13,000 crore, including the six-lane Aunta-Simaria Ganga bridge, the Buxar thermal power plant, sewerage treatment and network projects, and railway infrastructure in Gayaji. He will be joined by chief minister Nitish Kumar, both deputy chief ministers, several union ministers, Bihar ministers and NDA MPs and MLAs.
Ahead of the visit, PM Modi posted on social media: “I am looking forward to coming to Gayaji where works worth more than Rs 13,000 crore will be inaugurated and foundation stones laid. These projects include four-laning of the Bakhtiyarpur to Mokama section of NH-31, Buxar Thermal Power Plant, Sewerage Treatment Plant and Sewerage Network.”
The rally in Bodh Gaya is expected to be one of the largest public gatherings in the region in recent years, with heavy security and elaborate arrangements in place.
