Patna: Patna was shaken late on Wednesday night after the body of a young man was found at NIT Ghat in the Pirbahor area. The deceased has been identified as Amit, a resident of Gopalpur Udayani. Police said the recovery created a sensation in the area, as locals gathered in large numbers at the riverside.
According to Amit’s family, he had left home on October 1 in a good mood. Before leaving, he asked his father for Rs 2,000. Out of this, he used Rs 1,800 to pay the EMI of his scooter and told his father he would return the remaining Rs 200. However, that same night, at around 12:50 am, Amit made a phone call to his grandmother. During the call, he said he was very upset and would not be coming back, raising fears about his safety.
On the night of October 2, police recovered a body from the Ganga between Barhara and NIT Ghat. During a search, a bike key was found in Amit’s pocket. Later, patrol police found an abandoned bike on Marine Drive. The bike was opened with the same key, confirming it belonged to Amit. His family was then informed about the tragic discovery.
Police officers said initial investigations suggest that Amit may have died by suicide. Pirbahor police officer Sajjad Gaddi said Amit, upset over personal and financial issues, is suspected to have jumped into the river. The body has been sent for postmortem, and a case has been registered for further inquiry.
The news of Amit’s death has devastated his family. Relatives and villagers rushed to the hospital after hearing the news. Many described Amit as a quiet and simple boy, but also mentioned he had been under stress in recent days. The sudden incident has left the entire village in mourning, with people deeply concerned about the struggles faced by young men like him.
