New Delhi: Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor on Friday met the family members of Pandav Kumar, a resident of Khagaria, in Delhi and assured them of support in their fight for justice and compensation.
Kishor described the death of the young man as a “heinous crime” and alleged that, according to the family, Pandav Kumar had been shot by police personnel.
‘He Was Allegedly Shot After Being Called A Bihari’
Speaking after the meeting, Kishor said the victim’s mother had told him that Pandav had gone to attend a birthday party when the incident took place.
According to Kishor, the family alleged that the youth was taunted with the words “He is a Bihari” before being shot.
The Jan Suraaj leader said 13 days had passed since the incident and even the final post-funeral rituals had already been completed, but no concrete administrative action had yet been taken.
He added that the victim’s family was economically weak and unaware of procedures required to seek compensation.
Demand For Government Action
Kishor said both the Bihar and Delhi governments had a responsibility to ensure adequate compensation for the family and strict action against those responsible.
He said he would raise the issue with Samrat Choudhary after returning to Patna and would also appeal to the Delhi government to intervene in the matter.
The political strategist-turned-leader linked the incident to broader questions of migration and employment.
He argued that many people from Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh were forced to migrate to other states due to lack of employment opportunities in their home regions.
According to Kishor, young men such as Pandav Kumar would not have been compelled to leave Bihar if adequate jobs were available within the state.
Sharp Response To Manjhi Remark
Kishor also criticised an alleged remark attributed to Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi regarding the incident.
Referring to the reported comment — “If he died, he died” — Kishor said such statements reflected a troubling mindset.
“Only families who lose a young son can understand such pain,” he said.
He added that his effort would be to ensure the victim’s family was heard and that accountability was fixed.
