Patna: A 55-member delegation from Punjab visiting Bihar under Yuva Sangam Phase VI of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme explored Mithila Haat in Madhubani district, where participants were introduced to the region’s traditional art, cuisine and cultural heritage.
The initiative, organised under the Ministry of Education, is being coordinated in Bihar by Indian Institute of Technology Patna, which has been paired with Punjab under the Yuva Sangam programme.
After visiting Patna and several UNESCO World Heritage Sites and historical landmarks across South Bihar, the delegation travelled to Mithila Haat, followed by visits to the ICAR-National Research Centre on Litchi and the Vishwa Shanti Stupa in North Bihar.

Traditional Welcome at Mithila Haat
Delegates received a traditional welcome at Mithila Haat with Pag and dupattas, reflecting the cultural customs of the Mithila region. Participants from Punjab described the hospitality and warmth extended by the hosts as memorable.
The visitors toured the Urban Art and Craft Centre, where they interacted with Madhubani painting artists and observed traditional art forms being created. Handicrafts including Sikki art, bamboo craft and wooden art drew particular interest from the delegation.
Locally produced goods and handmade pickles were also showcased, highlighting the self-reliant artisan culture and folk traditions of Mithila.

Delegates Experience Mithila Cuisine and Boat Ride
The delegation later sampled traditional Mithila cuisine at Bhansaghar, where the architecture and décor inspired by regional traditions attracted praise from visitors.
Participants also enjoyed a Sikara boat ride in the pond located within the Mithila Haat complex.
Several delegates remarked that Mithila Haat offered a vivid and memorable presentation of the region’s culture, cuisine, handicrafts and traditions, leaving a lasting impression through its hospitality and cultural atmosphere.
