Patna: Indian Railways has introduced a twice-weekly special train service between Purnia Court in Bihar and Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi, in an effort to ease mounting passenger pressure during the summer travel season.
The service, which begins operations on Sunday evening, is expected to improve connectivity for travellers from north Bihar, particularly those from the Seemanchal and Mithilanchal regions, where direct rail options to the capital have often been limited.
Railway officials said the decision was taken in response to a sharp rise in demand during the holiday period, when existing trains on the route frequently operate at or beyond capacity. Overcrowding during these months has long been a source of difficulty for passengers undertaking long-distance journeys to Delhi.
The special train, numbered 05579/05580, will depart from Purnia Court at 4.30pm and arrive at Anand Vihar Terminal at 1.05am on the third day of travel. It will run twice a week, though specific operating days have not been detailed in the initial announcement.
Along its route, the train will stop at several key stations, including Saharsa, Supaul, Nirmali, Jhanjharpur, Sakri, Janakpur Road, Sitamarhi, Raxaul and Narkatiaganj, extending its reach to passengers in smaller towns and districts.
Railway authorities said the initiative is aimed at providing relief to passengers while ensuring more accessible and comfortable travel during peak demand. Travellers have been advised to book tickets in advance and check schedules prior to departure.
The introduction of the service has been met with a positive response from passengers, many of whom face limited travel options during the summer rush. Officials said the move forms part of broader efforts to manage seasonal demand and improve long-distance connectivity across the network.
