Purnia: A middle-aged man was beaten to death in Purnia district after a dispute over unpaid dues of Rs 220.
The victim, identified as Ashok Rai, 53, was attacked in Mahikhand Navtoliya village under Raghuvanshnagar police station. According to police, Rai had gone to a local grocery shop on Saturday evening to buy tobacco, when the shopkeeper, Theli Sah, pressed him to clear the small outstanding amount.
An argument broke out, quickly escalating into a violent altercation. Ashok was fatally assaulted during the clash. His son, Ram Kumar, later lodged a complaint, on the basis of which an FIR of murder has been registered against four people.
Police said one accused, Kanchan Devi, has been taken into custody, while the shopkeeper and two others remain absconding. “A case of murder has been registered, and raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining accused,” said Dhamdaha SDPO Sandeep Goldy.
