Siwan/Patna: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Bihar uncovered a cache of ammunition and narcotics during a dramatic raid on the residence of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader and local strongman Raees Khan in Siwan on Sunday.
The seven-hour operation, which began at 9 a.m., led to the recovery of 100 AK-47 bullets along with hashish and marijuana, though the quantity of narcotics seized has not yet been disclosed. Khan, a former MLC candidate, was detained alongside two close aides, Munna Mian and Aftab Mian.
The high-profile raid involved the Saran Range DIG, Siwan SP, SDPO, and SIT officials, supported by police from more than 12 stations. Villagers watched as the area was surrounded and searched in what police described as a targeted intelligence-driven operation.
DIG Nilesh Kumar said that information had been received about illegal weapons and narcotics being stored at Khan’s property. Following the raid, further searches were conducted based on his disclosures, leading to the recovery of additional AK-47 bullets. Police sources linked the ammunition to weapons allegedly used in the recent murder of a police officer.
Khan, a resident of Gyaspur village, has contested the Raghunathpur assembly seat and previously ran for the legislative council. Despite his political profile, he has long been dogged by allegations of criminal activity, including land disputes, extortion, and murder cases in Siwan, Chhapra, and Gopalganj. His associates also face multiple charges.
Police have placed the trio under strict surveillance, with interrogations expected to reveal details of their wider network. Officials suggested that more raids could follow as investigations into Khan’s alleged links with recent criminal incidents continue.
