Chhapra/Patna: Three people, including two children, were killed in a tragic road accident on Sunday in Saran district of Bihar after a school autorickshaw was struck by an unidentified vehicle on the Chapra–Muzaffarpur NH-722. At least six other children were injured and are receiving treatment in hospital.
Police said the victims included six-year-old Mishti Kumari, daughter of Guddu Thakur, and another student from Haranbadha village, as well as the autorickshaw driver, whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
The accident occurred around 2:30pm as children from MS Public School were returning home after attending special Sunday classes. The injured were first rushed to Maker Hospital and later referred to Chapra Sadar Hospital for further treatment.
Station House Officer Virendra Narayan Singh of Maker police station said: “The injured have been admitted to the Maker Health Centre, where they are undergoing treatment. The bodies of the three deceased, including two children and the auto driver, are being sent to Chapra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.”
Locals said the crash caused panic in the area, sparking traffic jams on the highway. Villagers demanded swift action to trace the vehicle and arrest the absconding driver.
Police have taken custody of the bodies and initiated proceedings for a Panchnama while the investigation continues.
