Patna: Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has announced a mass campaign in Bihar aimed at combating alleged voter suppression ahead of the state’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The “Vote Adhikar Yatra” is set to begin on August 17.
In a video released on social media platform X on Thursday, Gandhi outlined the purpose of the campaign, accompanied by the yatra’s logo and theme song. “With #VoterAdhikarYatra from August 17, we are waging a direct battle against vote theft from the land of Bihar,” he wrote. “This is not just an election issue — it is a decisive battle to protect democracy, the Constitution, and the principle of ‘one person, one vote’.”

Gandhi emphasised that the yatra would seek to ensure the preparation of a clean voter list across India, calling on youth, workers, and farmers to participate. “This time, the defeat of vote thieves — victory of the people, victory of the Constitution,” he added.
The campaign will begin at the Sasaram Railway Stadium in Rohtas and conclude on September 1 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, covering roughly 25 districts in Bihar. Gandhi will be accompanied on the first day by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, while leaders from all constituent parties of the Bihar India Alliance, including Tejashwi Yadav, are expected to join the march.
