Aurangabad: On the second day of his ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the historic Sun Temple in Dev, Aurangabad, where he performed rituals and interacted with priests.
He accompanied by Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav and Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahni, entered the temple through the traditional Dandavat gate before reaching the sanctum sanctorum. There, he offered flowers, bowed his head before the deity and took a pledge. Emerging after five minutes, he was seen with a tilak on his forehead, a garland around his neck and a pink dupatta draped over his shoulder. He later offered water, performed a circumambulation of the shrine, rang the temple bell and heard from priests about the site’s history.
Following the rituals, Gandhi’s convoy left for Rafiganj. Earlier in the morning, his cavalcade passed through Amba Chowk and the Satbahini temple area without stopping, despite expectations among party workers that he would meet them. Supporters, who had gathered with garlands, expressed disappointment after being left waiting.
A planned halt at a market square in Amba was also skipped, angering local workers and supporters who eventually dispersed. In addition, farmers affected by the Bharatmala highway project, who had gathered at a rest house in Babhandih hoping to meet Gandhi, left disheartened as he did not stop to speak with them.
