Patna: The East Central Railway has announced a temporary suspension of parcel bookings to Delhi from all stations under its Samastipur division between January 22 and 26, citing security concerns surrounding Republic Day celebrations.
The restriction will apply to stations across Bihar, as well as major Delhi stations including New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla. The railways have imposed a complete ban on parcels to Delhi from January 23 to 26, with services from other stations suspended a day earlier as a precaution.
The Samastipur division’s commercial department said parcel services will resume once the security situation stabilises after January 26. Passengers and traders have been urged to make alternative arrangements and follow instructions from railway authorities. During this period, no commercial or personal parcels will be accepted for delivery to Delhi.
The suspension is likely to affect traders, wholesalers, and small business owners in Bihar’s Seemanchal region—including Saharsa, Supaul, and Madhepura—as well as in Patna and surrounding areas, who rely on railway parcel services to transport goods to Delhi markets.
Parcel services are normally available on trains including the Vaishali Express (15566/65, Lalit Gram–New Delhi), Purabiya Express (15279/80, Saharsa–Anand Vihar), Garib Rath Express (12204/03, Saharsa–Amritsar), and Jansadharan Express (15529/30, Saharsa–Anand Vihar Terminal).
