Patna: Heavy rainfall lashed Patna and several parts of Bihar on Monday morning, leading to severe waterlogging across many areas of the state. In the capital, low-lying regions including Kurji, Pataliputra Colony, Patna Junction and JP Ganga Path were inundated after more than an hour of continuous downpour.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a yellow alert has been issued for all 38 districts of Bihar for Monday, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by cloudy conditions over the next few days.
Apart from Patna, rainfall was also reported from Chapra, Begusarai, Jehanabad and Nalanda. Dark clouds covered districts such as Gopalganj and Muzaffarpur, indicating more showers in the coming hours.
In Jehanabad, all rivers are currently in spate, with water overflowing onto roads and flooding several residential areas. Locals are facing difficulties as daily travel has been disrupted by inundated routes.
Nalanda has also been hit badly, as rising river levels due to heavy rain in Jharkhand caused floodwater to enter more than a dozen villages in Hilsa block, submerging farmland and homes. Reports indicate that at least 18 villages have been affected, worsening the situation for residents.
While the rainfall has provided much-needed respite from the heatwave conditions, the Meteorological Department has cautioned that high humidity levels may persist, causing discomfort despite the showers.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and avoid waterlogged areas, particularly in flood-prone districts.
