Patna: Cricket fans across Bihar are brimming with excitement as the much-anticipated Rajgir Cricket Stadium nears completion. The Building Construction Department announced on Saturday that the pavilion and grounds are now ready for player training and practice matches, marking a milestone in the state’s sporting infrastructure.
“This magnificent, captivating, and beautiful image of the illuminated Rajgir Cricket Stadium will thrill sports lovers,” the department shared on social media, alongside photographs of the gleaming structure lit up against the evening sky.

The sprawling stadium — built to international standards set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) — can accommodate up to 40,000 spectators. Spread across 18 acres, it boasts a five-storey pavilion housing dedicated zones for players, match officials, media personnel, and VIP guests.
Secretary of the Building Construction Department said engineers studied designs of major stadiums across India and abroad before finalizing Rajgir’s layout. “With this project, Bihar will soon establish a new identity on India’s sports map,” he said, adding that the facility represents a “long-awaited leap forward” for the state’s cricket ecosystem.

The stadium’s modern amenities include a gymnasium, spa, physio room, laundry, and a fully equipped medical centre for players. For the media and fans, there are commentary boxes, camera decks, and corporate suites with private balconies — all designed to enhance the match-day experience.
Pitch preparation is being supervised by the BCCI’s Chief Curator, who will give the final approval before matches begin. The venue features 13 playing surfaces — seven made from Mokama’s black soil, known for its superior bounce, and six from Maharashtra’s red soil, traditionally favoured for spin-friendly tracks.
