Rajgir/Patna: Indian Railways will operate a special train service between Rajgir and Howrah from Saturday to June 17 in view of the upcoming Malmas Mela in Rajgir.
Railway officials said the decision was taken to manage the expected rise in passenger traffic during the religious fair and the summer holiday season, when large numbers of visitors travel to Rajgir.
Timings of the special train
According to the schedule released by the railways, train number 03029 Howrah–Rajgir Special will depart from Howrah Junction at 10.50pm on Saturday and reach Rajgir at 1pm the following day after passing through several stations.
On the return journey, train number 03030 Rajgir–Howrah Special will leave Rajgir at 2pm on Sunday and arrive at Howrah at around 4.30am the next day.
Stoppages along the route
Chief Public Relations Officer Saraswati Chandra said the special train will halt at several stations including Kiul, Abhaypur, Jamalpur, Bhagalpur, Sahibganj, Pakur and Rampurhat.
Railway officials said the service is expected to improve connectivity between Bihar and West Bengal while reducing congestion in regular trains operating on the route.
Coach composition and passenger facilities
The special train will have a total of 14 coaches, including eight general coaches and two sleeper coaches. Two SLR coaches will also be attached at both ends of the train.
Officials said the additional service is expected to benefit passengers travelling to Rajgir during the Malmas Mela as well as tourists visiting the town during the summer vacation period. Rajgir is one of Bihar’s major tourist and pilgrimage destinations.
