Patna: Students and migrant workers living in Patna have received some relief as gas agencies in the city currently have adequate stock of 5-kg LPG cylinders. Authorities said those in need can obtain connections for these smaller cylinders from nearby gas agencies, and special camps are being organised to facilitate the process.
On Wednesday, a camp was organised in the Raja Bazar area to help residents obtain connections for the smaller LPG cylinders.
Amit Mittal, head of Bharat Petroleum (LPG) for the Bihar–Jharkhand region, said around 2,000 people in the city have already taken connections for the 5-kg cylinders. He added that about 15,000 small cylinders are currently available with six Bharat Gas agencies in Patna.
Saurabh Chandra, Bihar head of Indian Oil Corporation (LPG), said approximately 20,000 small cylinders are available with IOCL distributors in the city. Consumers can obtain these cylinders by presenting their Aadhaar card, he said.
However, the shortage of regular domestic LPG cylinders continues to affect a large number of consumers in Patna. Around 1.60 lakh consumers who have booked cylinders are still waiting for delivery.
According to official figures, the backlog includes 1,13,518 consumers of IOCL, 32,400 consumers of BPCL and 14,865 consumers of HPCL who are yet to receive their booked cylinders.
Meanwhile, the district administration has intensified enforcement against irregularities in LPG distribution. Officials said raids have been conducted at 780 locations across the district so far, and FIRs have been registered against 23 individuals in connection with violations.
