Patna: After days of sweltering heat and high humidity, several parts of Bihar witnessed a significant change in weather on Saturday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued thunderstorm and rainfall alerts for 27 districts across the state.
The weather department has placed 12 districts under an Orange Alert and 15 districts under a Yellow Alert, warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph, and the possibility of lightning strikes.
Since early Saturday morning, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has been reported from Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Katihar and Jamui, bringing much-needed relief from the oppressive heat that has gripped the state over the past several days.
Lightning Strike Kills Man in Jamui
A 47-year-old man died after being struck by lightning in Jamui district late Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Mahendra Yadav, a resident of the Konan area under Sikandra police station limits. According to local reports, the incident occurred during adverse weather conditions. The death has left the village in mourning, while family members are reportedly devastated by the loss.
Rain Brings Relief Across Several Districts
Khagaria experienced heavy rainfall early Saturday after dark clouds gathered over the district. Residents welcomed the showers, which provided relief from the intense heat and humidity.
In Munger, strong winds were followed by heavy rain during the early morning hours, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature.
Begusarai also recorded continuous rainfall for more than an hour, accompanied by gusty winds. Similar weather conditions were reported from Katihar and Jamui, where overcast skies and rain prevailed throughout the morning.
Weather Pattern Linked to Moisture and Low-Pressure Activity
Meteorologists said the changing weather conditions are being driven by increased moisture in the atmosphere and localized low-pressure systems. While eastern and northern parts of Bihar have been experiencing moisture-laden winds and intermittent rainfall, southern and western districts continue to face hot and humid conditions.
According to weather experts, these fluctuations are characteristic of pre-monsoon activity and often result in sudden weather changes, including thunderstorms and heavy showers.
Monsoon Likely to Reach Bihar Within Two Weeks
The southwest monsoon has already arrived in Kerala and is gradually advancing across the country. Weather experts believe that if its progress remains normal, Bihar could receive monsoon rains within the next one to two weeks.
Typically, the monsoon becomes active across Bihar during the second half of June.
Patna May Receive Light Rain
The weather department has forecast cloudy skies and the possibility of light rainfall in Patna on Saturday. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain near 29 degrees Celsius.
Any rainfall in the state capital is likely to provide some relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
More Rain Expected in Coming Days
The IMD has predicted that several parts of Bihar may continue to experience thunderstorms and rainfall over the next few days. However, hot and humid weather may persist in parts of southwestern Bihar and some central districts.
As the southwest monsoon advances further, rainfall activity across the state is expected to increase, bringing broader relief from the summer heat.
