Patna: Patna is gearing up for the 77th Republic Day, with district authorities emphasising both grandeur and security at Gandhi Maidan. Ahead of the event, District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan SM conducted an inspection of the grounds on Monday, reviewing arrangements and instructing officials to ensure that all preparations meet protocol and are executed flawlessly.
This year, organisers have prioritised crowd management, traffic control, and heightened security, aiming to allow the public to enjoy the celebrations without disruption.
Designated entry points and traffic plans
Visitors will enter Gandhi Maidan through gates 5, 6, and 7, with the choice of gate determined by their point of arrival. Those coming via JP Ganga Path, Ashok Rajpath, Golghar, Mandiri, Buddha Colony, and connecting roads will use gates 5 and 6, while gate 7 is designated for arrivals from Bari Path, Nala Road, Thakurbari, Bakarganj, Exhibition Road, Fraser Road, TN Banerjee Road, and Chhajjubagh. Media personnel will be admitted through gate 9. Officials say this arrangement is intended to streamline crowd movement and strengthen security.

Enhanced surveillance and security measures
Security has been tightened across the venue. Gandhi Maidan and its surroundings will be monitored by 128 CCTV cameras, while 18 watchtowers have been installed for continuous surveillance. A temporary police station and control room will also be operational throughout the day to respond swiftly to any incidents.
To improve administrative oversight, the Maidan has been divided into four zones and several sub-sectors, each managed by officers at the level of Additional District Magistrate or Additional Superintendent of Police. Seating, access routes, signage, and information boards are being arranged according to strict protocols.
Illuminated for safety
Night-time security has been reinforced with upgraded lighting. The Maidan will feature 136 LED metal lights, 229 pole lights, and 15 high-mast lights, ensuring the entire complex is brightly lit for early detection of any suspicious activity.
