Saran: A retired Indian Army soldier was beaten to death late on Friday night in Naini Uttar Tola village, located in the Mufassil police station area of Bihar’s Saran district, in what police believe was a long-standing land dispute.
The victim, identified as Mahesh Prasad Rai, had been farming in the village since retiring from the military. According to local reports, the dispute over the land had been simmering for nearly two decades.
The altercation reportedly began as a confrontation between women from two families, but quickly escalated into violence. Witnesses say members of the opposing party attacked Rai with sticks, resulting in fatal injuries. He is believed to have died at the scene.
Following the incident, the accused fled the village, locking their house before going into hiding. Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Shikhar Chaudhary, Cyber DSP Aman, and the local station house officer, arrived at the scene to take control of the situation.
The body was sent to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination and later handed over to Rai’s family. An FIR has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, and police have launched a raid operation in search of the accused.
