Patna: Rohini Acharya, daughter of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, has launched a sharp attack on Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, accusing his government of failing to curb crimes against women and girls in the state.
In a post on X, Acharya said incidents of violence and sexual assault against women were being reported almost daily, raising serious questions about the effectiveness of governance and law enforcement in Bihar. Addressing the chief minister directly, she described the situation as “shameful” and said that despite repeated claims of the rule of law, daughters remained unsafe.

“The sad truth is that because of the government’s insensitivity, administrative indifference and failure on women’s safety, Bihar is no longer a safe place for women and girls,” she wrote. Acharya added that crimes against women were continuing unabated while the government appeared to be “in a deep slumber”.
She questioned whether criminals in the state had lost all fear of the law, asking why violent and sexual crimes against girls were not stopping despite official directives. “Has it become the perception among criminals in Bihar that they will easily get away with their crimes?” she asked.
To underline her criticism, Acharya referred to two recent incidents. One involved the alleged gang rape of a minor girl at knifepoint in Saran district. The other was a case from Patna in which a young woman was reportedly set on fire.
Her comments come amid growing political pressure on the Nitish Kumar government over law and order, particularly on issues related to women’s safety, which has long been a sensitive and contested subject in Bihar’s political discourse.
