Saharsa/Patna: A 20-year-old man died by suicide in Bihar’s Saharsa district after a late-night argument with his wife over a video call, police claimed on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Mohammad Arju, also known as Golu, had married against his family’s wishes in early 2024 after meeting his wife, Gulabsa, at a wedding in Uttar Pradesh. The couple initially lived in Moradabad, but family members said disputes escalated this year after Gulabsa, who is three months pregnant, insisted on staying at her parents’ home rather than with her husband.
On Wednesday night, Arju reportedly skipped dinner and locked himself in his room. His aunt, Rizwana Khatoon, later overheard a heated exchange between the couple around 2 a.m. Moments later, she found him hanging. He was rushed to a doctor but declared dead.
Family members allege that persistent quarrels and late-night phone fights pushed him to the brink. They also said Gulabsa’s phone has been switched off since the incident and she has not contacted the family.
Police from Saharsa Sadar station arrived at the scene and sent the body for postmortem. Station House Officer Subodh Kumar said the case appeared to be suicide, with further action dependent on the autopsy report.
