Muzaffarpuir/Patna:The Railway Administration has approved a project worth around Rs. 1.61 crore for the repair, safety enhancement and beautification of level crossings on the Samastipur–Muzaffarpur rail section.
The initiative forms part of a broader railway modernisation programme aimed at improving the safety, functionality and appearance of level crossings across the network.
Tender process and timeline
The work will be supervised by the Senior Section Engineer (Works/Line), Muzaffarpur.
A tender will be issued for the project, and the selected contractor will be required to complete all works within six months from the date of the work order.
The earnest money deposit for bidders has been fixed at around Rs. 3.23 lakh.
Repair and infrastructure works
Under the approved plan, several level crossings will undergo infrastructure upgrades, including:
- Repair of road surfaces at crossings
- Renovation of gate lodges
- Fencing works
- Painting and maintenance activities
The project is intended to improve both operational efficiency and commuter safety at railway crossings.
Safety measures
The Railways also plans to strengthen safety systems at the crossings through the installation of:
- CCTV cameras
- Modern interlocking systems
- Enhanced telecommunication links between gatemen and station masters
- Sirens and warning hooters to alert road users before train arrivals
- LED lighting and related safety infrastructure
Beautification and landscaping
As part of the beautification component, green spaces will be developed on both sides of the level crossings.
Vacant land near crossing gates will be landscaped with ornamental plants, grass and medicinal gardens. Railway authorities also plan to introduce wall art depicting local culture, regional heritage and railway safety themes on gate lodges and adjoining structures.
The project is expected to upgrade the level crossings into safer and more modern facilities while improving their visual appeal along the Samastipur–Muzaffarpur route.
