Patna: The Samrat Choudhary has accused the opposition of spreading misinformation over fuel prices, amid heightened political activity following the recent expansion of the Bihar cabinet.

In a post on X on Friday, Choudhary rejected claims circulated by opposition parties that the prices of petrol, diesel and domestic LPG cylinders would increase after elections in five states. He described the allegations as another example of “fear politics”.

Sharing a graphic alongside his statement, the chief minister said the opposition’s attempts to create panic among the public had once again been exposed as false. He added that there was currently no proposal before the government to increase the prices of petrol, diesel or cooking gas.

Choudhary alleged that opposition parties had long relied on “rumours and confusion” as a political strategy, but said voters were increasingly able to distinguish between “facts and misinformation”.

“Neither have petrol prices increased, nor diesel prices, nor domestic LPG cylinder prices,” he said, accusing opponents of continuing efforts to mislead the public despite official clarification from the government.

The chief minister also framed the debate as a contest between governance focused on “public interest and development” and what he called the opposition’s “politics of lies and fear”. He claimed that the public had become more aware and vigilant regarding political narratives designed to create uncertainty.

The remarks come a day after Bihar’s cabinet expansion, which has triggered renewed political manoeuvring within the state. On Thursday, Choudhary met former chief minister Nitish Kumar and later shared a photograph of the meeting on social media. In the image, Kumar is seen smiling with his hand resting on Choudhary’s shoulder.

Political observers have interpreted the meeting as a signal of unity and coordination within the ruling alliance as the government seeks to consolidate its position following the reshuffle.
