Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday said the state government was working on an expanded urban development model for the state capital Patna, which would be identified in future as Pataliputra.
Speaking at public welfare camp in Nadiyawan village of Phulwari Sharif, Choudhary outlined the government’s plans on infrastructure, law and order, industrial development and welfare measures.
Greater Patna plan
Choudhary said the government was developing new townships as part of a broader vision to expand Patna and modernise the capital’s infrastructure.
He said the concept of “Greater Patna” had been prepared under the name Pataliputra, aimed at linking the city’s future growth with its historical identity.
Referring to earlier challenges such as waterlogging in several parts of the city, including Kankarbagh, he said urban planning would now focus on improving basic infrastructure and supporting economic activity.
Focus on law and order
The chief minister said maintaining law and order remained one of the government’s highest priorities.
He said the administration would continue to act firmly against criminal activities and ensure public safety, especially in cases involving women.
Referring to a recent case in Bhojpur, he said the accused had been arrested and assured that negligence in such matters would not be tolerated.
Higher compensation for farmers
Choudhary said the government was preparing proposals to increase compensation for farmers, which would soon be placed before the cabinet.
He said the move was part of broader efforts to strengthen agriculture and improve the rural economy.
Emergency assistance for families
The deputy chief minister said district magistrates had been given special powers to provide immediate financial assistance to families facing sudden crises, disasters or urgent social obligations such as marriages.
He said the measure was intended to provide timely support during difficult situations.
Industry and township development
Choudhary said industrial growth and township expansion would help attract investment and generate employment across the state.
He said these initiatives were expected to contribute significantly to Bihar’s economic progress.
Budget growth highlighted
Referring to Bihar’s fiscal growth, Choudhary said the state budget had expanded significantly over the years.
He said the increase reflected the state’s development trajectory and growing economic strength.
Relief for farmers
