Patna: A sand-laden truck rammed into a police vehicle in Patna on Tuesday after its driver attempted to flee the scene of a fatal crash, narrowly missing a senior police officer, authorities said.
The incident occurred in the Bihta area, where the truck had earlier crushed a young motorcyclist on a railway overbridge. According to police, the driver sped away after the collision and, while escaping, deliberately drove into the official car of Deputy Superintendent of Police Amarendra Kumar Jha.
Jha, who is posted as DSP Danapur-2, was travelling in his vehicle from the Bihta side when the truck struck it on a busy stretch of road. He escaped unhurt, though the impact caused damage to the police vehicle.
Following the collision, police teams from multiple stations rushed to the spot. The driver was apprehended and the truck seized, officials said. The case is being investigated under the jurisdiction of Bihta police station.
Police sources said the incident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by illegal sand mining and the aggressive tactics often used by those involved in the trade to evade law enforcement.
