Patna: South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) has distributed 72 Smart TVs to Other Backward Class (OBC) Residential Girls’ (+2) High Schools across 12 districts of South Bihar under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. According to the company, the initiative aims to strengthen digital learning infrastructure and promote smart classrooms in government-run residential schools.

The Smart TVs were formally handed over on August 5 by Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) Ajay Yadav to the Director of the Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department. SBPDCL Managing Director Saurav Jorwal was also present at the event.

Rs 54 Lakh CSR Project to Promote Digital Learning

According to SBPDCL, the company has invested approximately Rs 54 lakh in the project as part of its CSR commitment to supporting education and digital inclusion.

A total of 72 units of 65-inch Smart TVs have been supplied to 12 OBC Residential Girls’ (+2) High Schools operated by the Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department.

Officials said the Smart TVs will be used to develop smart classrooms and improve access to digital educational resources.

According to the company, six Smart TVs each have been provided to schools in:

The company said the Smart TVs will enable students to attend expert lectures, access e-learning materials and prepare online for competitive examinations, including medical and engineering entrance tests.

Officials Highlight Role of Technology in Education

Speaking at the event, Energy Secretary Ajay Yadav said integrating digital technology into classrooms plays an important role in improving students’ learning experiences and expanding access to modern educational resources.

According to the company, he said the CSR initiative is aimed at creating better academic environments while promoting digital empowerment among girl students.

SBPDCL Reaffirms CSR Commitment

SBPDCL Managing Director Saurav Jorwal said the company remains committed not only to providing reliable electricity services but also to contributing to social development through its CSR initiatives.

According to SBPDCL, he said the project would help students from underprivileged communities become more familiar with digital technology and strengthen educational opportunities in residential schools.

Project Approved by Board

According to the company, the CSR initiative was approved by the Board of Directors during its meeting held on February 26, 2026, following the recommendation of the CSR Committee.

Officials said the Smart TVs are expected to enhance digital teaching facilities and support technology-enabled learning across the participating schools.

What’s Next

SBPDCL said the Smart TVs will now be installed in the designated schools, where they will be integrated into classroom teaching and digital education programmes.

The company said the initiative forms part of its broader CSR efforts to support education, digital inclusion and skill development across Bihar.

  • After the Bihar BJP review meeting in Patna, Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari interacted with journalists outside the party office.
The minister said that complaints related to the Education Department have reduced significantly. He stated that there was a time when people from across the state used to visit with issues related to transfers, salaries and appointments, but the situation has now changed. According to him, the decline in complaints is due to regular interaction with the public and timely resolution of their grievances.
Tiwari said he meets teachers, parents and the public three times every day. He meets people at his official residence at 10 am, at his office and ministry at 4 pm, and again at his official residence from 10 pm to 2 am, where he listens to everyone until the last person has been heard.
