Patna: Shivnarayanpur Railway Station in Bihar has been redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), with Indian Railways stating that the project is designed to improve passenger amenities, accessibility and safety while preserving the cultural identity of the Bhagalpur region.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway on July 15, the redevelopment has been completed at an approved cost of Rs 17.94 crore under the first phase of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Modern Passenger Facilities Added
Located on the Sahibganj–Bhagalpur rail section, Shivnarayanpur Railway Station is an NSG-5 category station serving commuters in Bhagalpur district. Situated near National Highway-80, it provides rail connectivity to daily commuters, students, farmers, traders and businesspeople.
The redevelopment includes a modernised station façade, upgraded concourse and booking counters, improved waiting halls, reserved lounges and renovated restrooms.
A new circulating area and parking zone have also been developed to improve passenger movement and station access.

Accessibility and Safety Upgraded
As part of the project, Indian Railways has installed modern passenger information signage and enhanced lighting across the station building and circulating area.
The station has also been equipped with two passenger lifts and barrier-free infrastructure for persons with disabilities, with the aim of making travel more accessible.
Officials said the architectural design reflects the cultural heritage of the Bhagalpur region, which is known for its historic silk weaving industry and is widely recognised as the “Silk City of India”.
Boost to Regional Development
According to the Railways, the upgraded station is expected to improve regional mobility by providing better access to education, healthcare, employment and trade.
The redevelopment is also expected to support local businesses and agricultural activities through improved rail connectivity while offering a more convenient travel experience for passengers.
Part of a National Railway Modernisation Plan
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is an Indian Railways initiative to redevelop railway stations across the country with modern infrastructure, improved passenger amenities and sustainable designs while retaining local architectural and cultural elements.
The Railways said the redevelopment of Shivnarayanpur Railway Station reflects its broader objective of creating modern, passenger-centric transport hubs that support regional growth and improve travel infrastructure.
According to the press release, the station is now ready to provide a safer, more comfortable and convenient travel experience with upgraded infrastructure and passenger facilities.
