Siwan/Patna: The famous Baba Mahendranath Dham in Mehdar, Siwan, is set to undergo a major transformation, with the Bihar Tourism Department preparing a comprehensive development proposal inspired by the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor.
The proposal covers 27 key points and aims to develop the temple complex into a major religious and tourism destination while improving facilities for devotees.
On Thursday, a team from the Bihar Tourism Department, accompanied by Ekma JD(U) MLA Manoranjan Singh, popularly known as Dhumal Singh, inspected the temple complex and reviewed the proposed development plans.
Giant Lord Shiva Statue to Be Installed in Lake
One of the major attractions under the proposed plan is a giant statue of Lord Shiva in the lake located in front of the main temple.
Water fountains are also proposed around the statue, with the aim of enhancing the religious and visual appeal of the temple complex.
The plan includes 12 Shiva Lingams inspired by the 12 Jyotirlingas. A shaded concrete circumambulation path will be constructed for devotees, while a symbolic Kanwar route is also proposed for Kanwariyas.
The main entrance to the proposed corridor will feature a grand gateway bearing the inscription ‘Om Namah Shivaya’.
Separate Lanes and Security Arrangements for Devotees
To manage crowds and improve visitor safety, the proposal includes security screening counters and separate lanes for devotees.
The temple complex is also expected to have a Yagya Shala, Bhogshala, prasad counters and an office for volunteers and service personnel.
Plans include improved security and fire safety arrangements. A VIP guest house is also part of the proposed development.
Yoga, Meditation and Spiritual Activities to Get Dedicated Spaces
A shaded pavilion with marble flooring is proposed for yoga, meditation and spiritual gatherings.
The plan also includes two landscaped gardens, Shiv Vatika and Vishnu Vatika.
To provide devotees with information about the religious and historical significance of the shrine, a museum, Vedic library and knowledge centre are proposed.
These facilities are intended to expand the temple’s role as a centre for religious learning and spiritual activities.
Parking, Children’s Park and Commercial Facilities Planned
The proposed development also focuses on improving basic amenities for visitors.
Parking facilities, bathing areas and toilets are planned to make visits more convenient for devotees.
A children’s park, fairground and commercial shops are also included in the proposal. These facilities could provide additional space for local traders and businesses.
The plan further proposes boating and kayaking facilities in the lake, adding recreational activities to the temple’s religious attractions.
Separate Complex for Religious Rituals
A dedicated complex with separate Shiva Lingams is proposed for different religious rituals, including Mahamrityunjaya-related ceremonies.
The objective is to provide organised spaces for devotees performing religious rituals and other spiritual activities.
Tourism and Local Employment in Focus
The proposed development aims to strengthen Baba Mahendranath Dham’s religious significance while promoting tourism in Siwan.
Improved facilities and additional attractions are expected to make the shrine more accessible to devotees and visitors.
The project is also intended to create opportunities for local employment and businesses through increased tourism and commercial activities.
However, the facilities mentioned are part of the proposed development plan. Their implementation will depend on the approval and execution of the project.
