Patna : The Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on the 10th day of the budget session as opposition MLAs staged protests over attacks on police personnel during Holi celebrations. Slogans were raised, accusing the government of failing to maintain law and order, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar left the House amid the commotion.
Opposition legislators, armed with posters, gathered in the portico before the session, chanting: “Holi of blood was played.” The posters alleged that Bihar was plagued by daily incidents of robbery, murder, and rape. One even depicted a sword being handed to the Chief Minister.
As tensions escalated, Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary instructed marshals to seize the posters, leading to further protests from opposition members.
Political blame game intensifies
The unrest was further fuelled by the case of Tej Pratap Yadav, who was fined Rs4,000 on Sunday. RJD MLA Mukesh Roshan accused the government of having “two sets of laws—one for the ruling party and another for the opposition.” He claimed that BJP leaders violated regulations without consequences, while opposition members faced penalties.
Referring to the attacks on police personnel, Mukesh Roshan said, “Nitish is very happy. There is spring in Bihar, there is a government of criminals, and there is a shower of bullets.”
BJP MLA Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul hit back, calling Tej Pratap’s actions a reflection of his sanskaar (values). “He is dreaming. There is no place for people with a feudal mindset. Elections are coming, and the public will reject this mentality,” he said.
Minister Nitin Nabin also criticised Tej Pratap, saying his behaviour “shows what kind of governance they want. I ask Tejashwi Yadav whether he still sees administration as a puppet show.”
