Patna: A 22-year-old student was killed in broad daylight in Patna on Wednesday, after being attacked by a group of assailants outside his family’s shop. The victim, identified as Gaurav Kumar, a first-year BA student from Lakhisarai, had travelled to the city to visit his father.
According to his family, the attack occurred near Nectar Hospital in Lohianagar, under the Kankarbagh police station area. Gaurav was chased, knocked to the ground, and repeatedly stabbed. He was admitted to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Speaking to police, Gaurav’s brother, Saurav Kumar, said the incident followed a dispute over a small sum of money. “On Tuesday evening, Gaurav gave a boy 200 rupees to buy cigarettes, but the boy didn’t return the money. This led to an argument, and Gaurav was later surrounded and beaten,” he said.
Saurav added that on Wednesday morning, 15 to 20 men armed with sticks, brass knuckles, and knives arrived at their shop. “We tried to intervene, but they stabbed my brother at the gate of our shop. Some of our family members were also injured while trying to stop them,” he said.
The family claimed they repeatedly contacted the emergency number Dial 112, but police did not arrive in time.
Police confirmed that a suspect has been arrested, and a forensic team has collected evidence from the scene. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the investigation is ongoing.
