Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA and former minister Tej Pratap Yadav has signalled that he will stick to his current constituency of Hasanpur in Samastipur district for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, putting to rest speculation about a possible return to his former seat of Mahua in Vaishali district.
Speaking on Friday, Tej Pratap, the estranged elder son of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, said he remains committed to working for the people of Hasanpur and plans to hold public meetings and Janata Darbars to address local grievances. “I am an MLA from Hasanpur. In the coming days, I will visit the area, meet people, listen to their problems and resolve them,” he said.
Tej Pratap’s comments come days after he was expelled from the RJD for six years following alleged relationships with one Anushka Yadav amid a disturbed marriage. Despite the expulsion, he asserted his continued political engagement, stating, “It does not mean that I should be imprisoned at home. I will travel in my own way and work for the people.”
The 36-year-old leader dismissed reports of a potential change of constituency. “At present, no attention has been paid to it. I am focused on Hasanpur. If something happens in the future, I will inform everyone,” he said.
Tej Pratap was first elected as an MLA from Mahua in 2015 but shifted to Hasanpur in 2020, where he secured a seat in the state assembly. Following his move, RJD fielded Mukesh Roshan from Mahua, who went on to win.
Last December, however, Tej Pratap stirred political speculation after indicating he might contest again from Mahua in 2025, citing his contributions to the constituency’s development. His remarks unsettled Mukesh Roshan, who reportedly grew anxious about retaining the seat and even broke down in front of the media amid the ensuing political tension.
