Gopalganj: Torrential rain disrupted the Mahagathbandhan’s election campaign on Saturday, forcing the cancellation of a much-anticipated rally in Mahammadpur under the Baikunthpur Assembly constituency. However, opposition leaders Tejashwi Yadav and Mukesh Sahani turned the challenge into an opportunity — addressing supporters over the phone after bad weather prevented their helicopter from taking off.
The rally, expected to be a key show of unity for the Grand Alliance, was called off due to persistent rain and safety concerns. Despite this, the two leaders reached out to the crowd via mobile loudspeakers, urging voters not to lose hope.
“Rain can delay our journey, but it cannot stop our fight for the people’s rights and development,” Tejashwi Yadav said in his phone address, echoed by Mukesh Sahani, who thanked supporters for waiting in the downpour.
At the venue, hundreds of people stayed put under umbrellas and makeshift covers, listening to their leaders’ messages over loudspeakers and responding with cheers and slogans.
RJD MLA and Mahagathbandhan candidate Prem Shankar Prasad said the helicopter could not land due to safety reasons and poor visibility. He added that a new date for the rally would soon be announced.
