Patna: Three days after the first phase of voting in the Bihar elections, political tensions show no sign of easing, as RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav accused the Election Commission of withholding gender-wise turnout data.
The Raghopur MLA and Grand Alliance’s chief ministerial candidate claimed that voters from all communities, castes, and classes are seeking change, and are openly supporting the alliance. “People from every caste and class are voting in favour of the Grand Alliance. The public is fed up with this government and wants change,” Yadav said, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction among the poor, farmers, youth, and women.
The senior politician’s most pointed criticism was directed at the Election Commission. “Why are these figures being hidden? Even after three days, they are not disclosing the voting percentage. The Election Commission will have to answer this,” he said, referring to the absence of gender-disaggregated data.
Yadav also suggested that the first phase of voting indicated a strong wave of support for the Grand Alliance, which he expects will continue into the second phase. “This time, the people of Bihar are united and are in the mood to give a chance to new leadership,” he said.
