Patna: As Bihar braces for electioneering, a video of opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav enjoying a rustic meal in a village kitchen has gone viral, prompting both praise and political speculation.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal leader posted the clip on X, formerly Twitter, showing him sitting cross-legged on the floor of a modest home in Madhubani district during his Bihar Adhikar Yatra (Bihar Rights March). Before entering the kitchen, he is seen removing his slippers, then tucking into a plate of ragi rotis, vegetables, chutney and onions, all cooked on a mud stove fuelled by firewood and cow dung cakes.

“The rotis baked on a mud stove have the aroma, sweetness and warmth of tradition – something only possible in villages, not in cities,” Yadav says in the video, as he eats with visible relish.
The post has drawn a wave of responses online. Supporters have highlighted the gesture as evidence of Yadav’s simplicity and closeness to rural communities. Political observers, however, have noted the timing, interpreting the video as a carefully calibrated attempt to project a grassroots image in the run-up to the polls. For many viewers, the scene has evoked nostalgia for Bihar’s rural traditions, adding an earthy flavour to an already charged election campaign.
