New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the national team, after the teenager produced a stunning innings of 190 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Suryavanshi, a left-hand batter, smashed 190 off 84 balls against Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, reaching his century in just 36 deliveries and breaking AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in List-A cricket. He struck 16 fours and 15 sixes, becoming the youngest player to score a century in the domestic one-day competition.
Tharoor, posting on X, compared the youngster’s ability to that of Sachin Tendulkar. The MP tagged Gautam Gambhir, the BCCI, Tendulkar, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in his post, prompting a wave of reaction from cricket fans, many of whom echoed his demand for Suryavanshi’s inclusion.
The last time a fourteen year old showed such prodigious cricketing talent, it was Sachin Tendulkar — and we all know what became of him. What are waiting for? VaibhavSuryavanshi for India!@imAagarkar @GautamGambhir @bcci @sachin_rt https://t.co/BK9iKqBGV2

While Suryavanshi’s rapid ascent has captured widespread attention, it remains unclear whether selectors will consider a call-up for a player so young. If selected, he would be one of the youngest athletes ever to represent India in international cricket.
Suryavanshi’s breakout performance has already intensified debate about early promotion and the pressures placed on prodigies in Indian sport.
