Patna: Three Class XI students are feared drowned in the Ganga while bathing at a riverbank in Adilpur village under Khusrupur police station area in Patna district on Sunday morning.
The students have been identified as Ankush Kumar, 17, son of Jitendra Singh; Raunak Kumar, 15, son of Rajiv Singh; and Sundaram Kumar, 16, son of Ratnesh Singh. All three were residents of Jagmal village and studied together.
Three friends swept away
According to police, seven friends had gone to the Ganga ghat to bathe around 9.30am. Ankush reportedly moved into deeper water and began struggling.
Raunak and Sundaram entered the river in an attempt to help him but were also swept away. The other boys raised an alarm, following which local residents informed the police.
SDRF joins search operation
Local divers began searching for the three students after the incident. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was subsequently called in to assist with the rescue operation.
Khusrupur station house officer Sanjeev Kumar said strong currents in the river were making the search difficult.
“Information was received that three students had drowned while bathing around 9.30am. The SDRF team has been called and local divers are also searching for them,” Kumar said.
The search operation was continuing on Sunday, with police and rescue teams monitoring the river. Family members of the missing students gathered at the site.
