Patna: A man was killed and nine others, including his young son, were injured in a tragic road accident in Danapur on Wednesday morning, when a brick-laden tractor went out of control and ran over a group of villagers at Usri turn, under Shahpur police station.

The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Balram Prasad, a resident of Bhagwatipur. His 10-year-old son, Pawan Kumar, is among the injured who were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The tractor, en route from Danapur towards Shivala, veered into the crowd after the driver lost control. Witnesses said the vehicle ran over several people before overturning into a roadside pit. The driver fled the scene immediately.

The incident sparked outrage in the area. Residents of Bhagwatipur and surrounding villages blocked the Danapur–Shivala main road with the victim’s body, demanding accountability and action. Tension prevailed for several hours before Shahpur police station in-charge Manish Kumar Anand intervened and pacified the agitated crowd. The body was sent to Danapur sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem.

Local residents accused authorities of negligence, alleging that many tractors in the area are routinely operated without licences and often by intoxicated drivers. “Despite several complaints, police have failed to take any concrete action,” a protester said, adding that the tragedy highlights the poor enforcement of traffic regulations.

Officer-in-charge Manish Kumar Anand assured that an investigation is underway and the accused driver will be arrested soon. “We are taking this matter seriously. Strict action will be taken against all illegal and negligent tractor operations,” he said.
