Nalanda: A tragic incident has unfolded in Pawapuri, Nalanda district, where five members of the same family consumed poison. According to initial reports, two daughters have succumbed, while the condition of the husband, wife, and son remains critical. All three are currently undergoing treatment at Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital.
The incident is believed to be a desperate act stemming from a debt of approximately Rs 5 lakh, which the family was reportedly under pressure to repay. The affected family, originally from Purnakama in Sheikhpura district, had been living in a rented house near Pawapuri Jalmandir for the past six months and was involved in the clothes business.
The individuals who consumed poison have been identified as Rita Devi (40, wife), Dharmendra Kumar (43, husband), Bhola Kumar (15, son), Ariya Raj (17, daughter), and Soni Kumari (16, daughter).
Notably, the youngest son, Shivam Kumar (14), did not consume poison. Police have taken him to the police station for questioning as part of their investigation.
Upon learning of the incident, Rajgir DSP Sunil Kumar and Inspector Manish Bhardwaj, along with their team, promptly arrived at Pawapuri to investigate the case. While the exact reasons for the family’s drastic step are still being ascertained, police sources indicate that the initial investigation points towards the family being under immense pressure due to financial debt.
The victim family had allegedly taken a loan of about five lakhs from an individual who was reportedly pressuring them for repayment. The DSP has confirmed that the matter of taking a loan is indeed emerging as a key factor in the preliminary inquiry. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
