Patna: New details have emerged in the sensational murder of gangster Chandan Mishra, who was shot dead inside Paras Hospital in Patna on Thursday. Investigations are now focusing on a chilling phone call allegedly made by his rival, Omkarnath alias Sheru Singh, from Purulia jail in West Bengal just four days before the assassination. This conversation reportedly escalated into threats, setting the stage for the audacious crime.
The phone call, which took place on July 13, began with Sheru greeting Chandan, “Ka Baba..Pranaam..Sab Theek Ba Nu..?” (How are you, Baba..Greetings..Is everything alright..?). Chandan’s initial reply was polite: “Haan, Babu Saheb..Sab Theek Ba..” (Yes, Babu Saheb..Everything is alright..). However, the conversation quickly turned confrontational when Chandan accused Sheru, “Babu Saheb, Sunanai Haan Tu Humar Reki Karwaawtara” (Babu Saheb, I hear you are getting me surveilled). Sheru denied this, “Na Baba, Aisan Kauno Baat Naikhey” (No, Baba, there’s no such thing). After this brief exchange, the two reportedly descended into a heated argument, exchanging abuses and threats.
From Allies to Arch-Enemies: The Gangland Rift
The Sheru gang is widely implicated in Chandan Mishra’s murder. Chandan and Sheru had initially entered the world of crime together, collaborating on numerous illicit activities. However, their partnership eventually fractured, leading to a bitter rivalry. It is believed that after Chandan was released on parole, Sheru began closely monitoring his movements, culminating in the alleged plot from jail.
Parole, Hospitalization, and a Foiled Attempt
Chandan Mishra had sought parole for medical treatment for both himself and his father. He was released from jail on July 8 in connection with the murder of a lime businessman, intending to undergo fistula surgery. He had even visited Patna AIIMS for consultation, and his associates reportedly posted social media reels from there. It is alleged that a conspiracy to kill Chandan Mishra was initially hatched outside AIIMS, but the plan could not be executed due to the large crowd and insufficient preparation.
Mishra was subsequently admitted to Paras HMRI Hospital in Raja Bazar at approximately 9:57 AM on July 15, where he underwent his fistula operation on the same day. Following the surgery, he was shifted to room number 209 of the private ward for recovery.
The Fatal Attack
On July 17, just two days after his operation, five armed miscreants brazenly entered Paras Hospital and fatally shot Chandan Mishra, bringing a violent end to his life and the escalating gang feud. The police investigation is ongoing, focusing on the details of the phone call and the wider network involved in the murder.
