Patna: Train services on the down line of the Danapur Railway Division were thrown into disarray on Thursday evening after the Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Express developed a brake binding fault near Khusrupur.
The incident occurred around 5.45pm when the wheels of the train reportedly jammed, producing smoke and forcing the train to halt. Rail officials said the technical problem led to the suspension of operations on the down line for nearly two hours, affecting hundreds of passengers.
The disruption cascaded across the route, with several trains delayed. The Jaynagar Namo Bharat Rapid Rail (train number 94804) was stranded at Fatuha station for over 90 minutes before resuming its journey at 7.46pm. The Dibrugarh Express (train number 15945) also remained stationary at Khusrupur for an extended period.
Stranded passengers complained of being left without food or adequate facilities as they endured the heat inside halted coaches. “The delay was exhausting. There was no clarity about when the train would move,” said one passenger.
By late evening, rail staff managed to clear the line, allowing the stranded trains to move ahead and restoring operations to normal. However, Fatuha station manager Ranjit Kumar declined to comment on the disruption.
