Patna: Police in Bihar have arrested two men accused of demanding Rs 2 crore extortion from a prominent doctor in Patna. Acting on intelligence, a joint team of Darbhanga Police and Bihar STF carried out a raid at an office complex near Delhi Mod in the University police station area of Darbhanga on June 29.
The accused have been identified as Noor Mohammad alias Lalbabu, a resident of Lahariyachak in Alampur, and Mohd Farhan from Ishpur. During questioning, both admitted their involvement in the conspiracy. Based on their information, a third accused was arrested from Phulwarisharif in Patna.
Police recovered a loaded pistol, six live cartridges, four Android mobile phones and Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from the two men. Officers believe the gang is linked to organised crime across multiple districts. Security has been tightened in Darbhanga and neighbouring areas following the arrests.
Darbhanga University Police Station Head Sudhir Kumar said the arrests were made after reports emerged of men carrying pistols near Delhi Mod. “After informing higher authorities, a team was formed and the area was cordoned off for the raid. This is a big success and further investigation may reveal more,” he said.
The two arrested men are currently being questioned, while police continue to investigate the wider network behind the extortion attempt.
