Muzaffarpur: A tragic road accident on Wednesday evening claimed the lives of two young men when a speeding truck ran over their motorcycle on NH-28 near Dighra Canal in the Sadar police station area of Muzaffarpur. Both victims died on the spot, leading to widespread outrage among locals who later blocked the highway in protest.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was moving at a dangerously high speed and hit the bike from behind. One of the victims was dragged for nearly 20 meters, while the other was crushed under the truck’s rear wheel. The driver and his helper fled after abandoning the vehicle on the roadside.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the bike was completely destroyed, and the body of one of the victims was torn into pieces. Locals described the accident scene as horrifying, with blood scattered across the road. Police and residents struggled for several minutes to retrieve one of the bodies trapped under the rear wheel of the truck.
As news of the accident spread, angry villagers gathered at the spot and blocked NH-28, shouting slogans against the administration. The blockade caused massive traffic congestion on both sides of the highway. Sadar Police Station Officer Asmit Kumar and Additional Police Station Officer Rajiv Kumar rushed to the scene with reinforcements. After convincing the crowd, the police managed to restore order and clear the jam.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident occurred during an overtaking attempt. The bike riders reportedly lost balance while trying to avoid an oncoming vehicle, after which the truck struck them from behind.
Police have seized the truck and sent both bodies to SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, for postmortem. The identification process of the deceased is currently underway.
Sadar Police Station Officer Asmit Kumar said, “This is a very tragic accident. Both young men died on the spot. The truck has been seized, and a search is underway for the driver and helper. The matter is under investigation.”
