Candidates preparing for the UGC NET December 2026 examination can now submit their applications, as the National Testing Agency (NTA) has opened the online registration portal.
The last date to submit the application form and pay the examination fee is October 28, 2026. Candidates who miss the deadline will get an additional opportunity from October 29 to 31, subject to payment of a late fee of Rs 500.
The examination is scheduled to be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode from December 14 to 19, 2026.
UGC NET to Be Conducted in 87 Subjects
The examination will cover 87 subjects and determines eligibility for different academic and research opportunities.
Candidates can qualify for the following categories:
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor: For candidates seeking research fellowship opportunities and eligibility for Assistant Professor positions.
- Assistant Professor and PhD admission: For candidates seeking eligibility for Assistant Professor positions and admission to PhD programmes.
- PhD admission only: For candidates seeking admission to doctoral programmes without qualifying for the other categories.

Correction Window to Open From November 2
The NTA will provide candidates an opportunity to correct permitted details in their application forms from November 2 to 4, 2026.

The application fee varies according to the candidate’s category.
- General category: Rs 1,150
- General-EWS and OBC-NCL: Rs 600
- SC, ST, Persons with Disabilities and third gender: Rs 325
Candidates can pay the examination fee using a credit card, debit card, net banking or UPI.
