Patna: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a revised fee structure for Aadhaar services, effective from October 1 until September 30,2028. While creating a new Aadhaar will remain free of charge, updates to existing records will now attract fees.
Biometric updates, including fingerprints and iris scans, will cost Rs 125 across all age groups. Previously, fees varied depending on age, but the new uniform charge applies to children aged 5–17 and adults alike. Demographic changes, such as updates to name, address, date of birth, or mobile number, will now incur a fee of Rs 75, standardising what was previously a varied or sometimes free process.
Document updates at Aadhaar Seva Kendras will also be subject to charges. Citizens updating documents in person will pay Rs 75, while online updates will cost Rs 30, reflecting UIDAI’s push for digital services. Similarly, obtaining a copy or colour print of an Aadhaar card at service centres will carry a fee of Rs 40.
UIDAI emphasised that the revised fee structure is intended not as a revenue measure, but to sustain and improve Aadhaar services. Rising costs for technology, data security, and centre operations were cited as reasons for the update.
Citizens are advised to familiarise themselves with the new rates before availing of Aadhaar services to avoid confusion. UIDAI has confirmed that the charges will remain unchanged for the entire three-year period.
